Your Chopta Tungnath trek will start in Haridwar, and you will visit the famous Mandakini Valley, the river, and the lake in Haridwar. We’ll then visit Chopta, surrounded by thick woods. We will start from Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashilla Top (Our last destination).

Generally, the climate is cool throughout the year. With an average temperature of about 16 degrees Celsius during the daytime, the summers are nice. Winters are very cold and temperatures very often drop below the freezing point.

The temple’s best time to visit is from April to September. Tungnath temple remains closed for about 6 months during winter because of heavy snowfall.

About Tungnath

At the top of the mountain, Tungnath separates the waters of the Mandakini River from those of the Alaknanda River (rising from Kedarnath) (raising above Badrinath). On this ridge, the Tungnath peak is the source of three springs which form the Akashkamini River. Approximately 2 km (1.2 mi) below Chandrashila Peak (3,690 m (12,106 ft)) is the temple.

Just below this ridge, the road to Chopta offers the shortest bridle approach route for trekking from Chopta to the temple, over a short distance of about 5 km (3.1 mi).

Picturesque views of the Himalayan range comprising Nanda Devi, Panch Chuli, Banderpoonch, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba and Neelkanth snow peaks on one side and the Garhwal valley on the opposite side could be seen from the top of the Chandrashila mountain.

There are wooded hills with rich alpine meadows with rhododendron coppices and even agricultural fields in the valley between Chopta and Tunganath temple.
